In mid-November, the Food Depot hands out 22,000 grocery bags to homes in NDG and Montreal West.
Residents are asked to fill these bags with non-perishable food items and leave them on their doorsteps for volunteer teams to collect. On December 2, 2017, we need drivers of cars/vans/trucks who will arrive at the high school between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and drive Loyola students up and down specified streets. We will supply a map for you. These students and, if you wish, members of your family, will go from door to door collecting food items and depositing them in your car. Once filled, you will drive to the Food Depot. This should take about two hours. Afterwards, there will be refreshments served in the cafeteria and everyone is welcome.
In these difficult economic times, over 3500 individuals (of which 40% are children under fifteen) rely on the Food Depot, either on a regular basis or when faced with an emergency. The Food Depot depends greatly on assistance from the community to continue this important work. This drive accounts for up to five months of food that the Food Depot hands out. Believe me, they can use our help.
We look forward to seeing you this year!
