The Girls' Bantam basketball team achieved a historic win, as it marked the first championship victory for a girls' team at Loyola. Under the leadership of coaches Mirko Djurovich, Steve Bucci, and Ava Bucci, the team concluded an undefeated season, securing the championship title in their inaugural year.
On February 22, 2024, their final game against l’école Maïmonide (MAI) ended with a decisive 44-11 victory. "When they look back on their championship banner, I want them to remember the unwavering support they received from the Loyola family and their parents, who attended every game and shared tears of joy and pride when they won," remarked coach Mirko Djurovich, reflecting on this pivotal moment in our school’s storied history. Team captain Jillian '28 and her teammates formed a cohesive unit, providing mutual support and fostering a culture of confidence that propelled them to success.
The team's achievement serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of perseverance, teamwork, and inspiration for future generations of Loyola student-athletes to aspire to. "This smooth transition to co-ed has been made possible because of our outstanding teachers, staff and coaches who focus with care on the whole person development of every student," expressed President Marcelle DeFreitas.
This championship win has garnered attention from various media outlets.
